Savoury mealie meal porridge

  • 1
    to 1.5 litres water
  • 10
    olive oil
  • 25
  • salt
  • 3
    garlic cloves, peeled
  • 3
    sprigs thyme
  • 500
    mealie meal
  • finely chopped fresh parsley
  • butter


Combine the water, oil, butter, salt, garlic cloves and thyme in a large pot and bring to the boil.
Sprinkle the mealie meal on top, stirring continuously.
Cover and simmer slowly for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Stir in parsley and butter to taste.
Serve with Lamb shank potjie.
