Reuben's deli burger

  • 2 onions, peeled
  • 1kg minced beef (chuck)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 8 soft burger buns
  • 8 rocket leaves
  • 3 vine-ripened tomatoes, sliced
  • 100g dill pickles, sliced
  • Store-bought barbecue sauce

Finely grate one onion and place in a large bowl with all the mince and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and black pepper and mix well.
Using your hands, form the mince mixture into 8 patties and refrigerate for 20 minutes. Thinly slice the remaining onion. Heat oil in a large frying pan and fry patties and onion on medium heat, turning patties occasionally, until the onions are soft and the meat is cooked to your taste (about 5 minutes for medium).
Cut the burger buns in half and toast the flat, cut sides under the grill. Top with rocket leaves, tomato slices, patties, fried onion and pickles.
Spread barbecue sauce on the top halves of the buns and close the burgers. Serve with fries and crispy onion rings.
