Peri-peri chicken

  • 1
    whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • salt

    onion, chopped
  • 2
    garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 7
    large ripe tomatoes, grated
  • 7
    peri-peri spice
  • 4
    green chillies, seeded
  • 2
    ground turmeric
  • 2
    ground cardamom
  • 60
    sour milk, maas or yoghurt
  • 25
    chutney or sweet chilli sauce


Season the chicken pieces with salt.
Heat the oil in a pan and stir-fry the onion and garlic until soft.
Remove from the heat and add the tomatoes, seasoning, sour milk (or maas or yoghurt) and chutney (or sweet chilli sauce).
Mix well and add the chicken pieces.
Spoon the sauce over the chicken, cover the pan and simmer until the chicken is done, about 30 to 45 minutes.
Brown the chicken under the oven grill and serve with potato chips and salad.
