Mushroom burger with a beef patty

Ingredients (17)

15 ml fresh chillies — 573
1 garlic — cloves, crushed
250 g button mushrooms — finely chopped
250 g beef mince — extra-lean
1/2 red onion — finely chopped
125 ml breadcrumbs — dried
1 eggs — extra-large, beaten
15 ml tomato paste
5 ml Worcestershire sauce
salt and freshly ground black pepper
20 ml fresh chillies — 573
1/2 garlic — cloves, crushed
5 ml lemon juice
8 portabellini mushrooms
1 red onion — cut into wedges
1 red pepper — sliced
2 salad greens — handful

Method:

Heat the olive oil in a frying pan, add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds, add the mushrooms, and sauté until just tender. Set aside to cool slightly.

Mix the mince, mushrooms, red onion, bread crumbs and egg. Then add the tomato paste and worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper.

Form the mince into 4 patties and allow to rest in the refrigerator until firm.

Mix the olive oil, garlic and lemon juice together. Brush the large mushrooms with olive oil mixture and place them onto a hot braai grill, add the patties and braai on both sides until cooked through. 

Heat a pan and the braai grid and add a drizzle of olive oil, Fry the red onion and red pepper until just tender.

To serve

Use the large mushrooms as the bread for the burger, Place the patty onto the burger, top with the red onion, red pepper and salad greens.
