Ingredients (12)

500.00 g steak — cubed, stewing
45.00 ml oil
1.00 onion — large, thinly sliced
250.00 ml stock — beef
2.00 celery stalks — chopped
1.00 green pepper — chopped
250.00 g brown mushrooms — sliced
15.00 ml cornflour
2.00 ml salt
15.00 ml soy sauce
125.00 ml stock — beef
125.00 ml pineapple — tinned, chunks

Method:

In a heavy-based saucepan brown the meat in the heated oil. Remove the meat cubes from the saucepan and in the same saucepan fry the onion until soft and fragrant. Add the meat and 250 ml (1 c) stock to the onions. Cover, reduce the heat and simmer for about one hour or until the meat is tender. Add the celery, green pepper and mushrooms to the meat mixture and simmer for another 10 minutes. Blend the cornflour, salt, soy sauce and 125 ml (1/2 c) cold stock until smooth. Stir into the meat mixture and heat until the sauce comes to the boil and thickens slightly. Add the pineapple and heat until warmed through. Serve hot with rice or mashed potatoes and vegetables.
