Ingredients (13)

25.00 ml fresh chillies — 573
1.00 onion — large, chopped
0.50 green pepper — deseeded and chopped
4.00 garlic — cloves, crushed
500.00 g mince — beef
1.00 fresh basil — handful torn
125.00 g mushrooms — sliced
1.00 tinned tomatoes — Italian-style
60.00 ml butter
60.00 ml flour — cake
500.00 ml milk
250.00 g pasta — spirals or ribbons
250.00 ml cheddar cheese — grated

Method:

1. Heat the olive oil in a saucepan. Sauté the onion, green
pepper and garlic until translucent. Add the mince and allow
it to brown, then add the basil, mushrooms and tomatoes.
Allow to simmer for 10 minutes. Season with a pinch of
sugar, salt and freshly ground black pepper.

2. Make a white sauce. Heat the butter in another saucepan and
stir in the flour. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly to
prevent lumps. Stir until thickened and season to taste.

3. Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the packet,
then drain well.

4. Layer the mince and the pasta in an ovenproof dish. Top
with the white sauce and sprinkle with grated Cheddar
cheese. Bake in a preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes until
golden. Serve with a Greek salad.
