Ingredients (20)

1.00 onion — finely chopped
65.00 ml water
2.00 bread — brown, sliced
500.00 g beef mince — lean
1.00 eggs
15.00 ml fresh thyme — chopped
2.00 ml nutmeg — ground
6.00 ml salt
2.00 ml black pepper — freshly ground
15.00 ml vinegar — grape
5.00 ml sugar
190.00 ml breadcrumbs — whole wheat
5.00 ml gravy powder — bbrown
250.00 ml stock — beef
1.00 onion — sliced into rings
15.00 ml gravy powder — bbrown
ratatouille
410.00 g tomatoes — chopped
5.00 ml fresh thyme — chopped
black pepper — freshly ground
pasta — cooked

Method:

Microwave the onion in the water until the onion is done. Drain well. Soak the brown bread in a little water and press out the excess liquid. Mash with a fork.
Place the mince in a fairly large mixing bowl. Mix the egg, cooked onion, mashed bread, seasonings, vinegar and sugar into the mince with a knife, taking care not to overmix. Shape the mince mixture into fairly small meatballs.
Mix the wholewheat breadcrumbs and gravy powder and roll the meatballs in the mixture. Arrange the meatballs in the microwave steamer. Pour the meat stock into the reservoir and add the onion rings. Place the steamer on top and cover.
Microwave for 18 minutes on 50 per cent power (medium) or until done.
Remove the meatballs and set aside.
VEGETABLE SAUCE: Mix all the sauce ingredients in the rice bowl, cover, and microwave until hot. Add the meatballs and mix.
Cover and microwave for a few minutes until hot. Serve immediately with pasta.
