Mealie crisps

  • 30
  • 250
    mealie meal
  • 250
    cake flour
  • generous pinch cayenne pepper
  • pinch salt
  • cold water
  • oil for deep-fat frying
  • salt or flavour enhancer


Mix all the dry ingredients together and add just enough water to make a dough that is easy to roll out. Mix well. Roll out the dough until thin and deep-fry in heated oil until golden brown and crisp. Drain on paper towelling and sprinkle with salt or your favourite flavour enhancer. Serves about 4.
