Marmalade pears

  • 100
    Seville orange, coarse-cut, bitter, kumquat or nartjie marmalade
  • 1
    orange, juice and fine grated peel
  • small knob fresh ginger
  • 4
    firm, ripe pears (Beurre Bosch are best), halved lengthways


Mix marmalade, orange juice and peel and ginger together. Place pear halves, cut side down, in a well-buttered ovenproof dish. Pour marmalade mixture over pears and cover dish with foil. Bake at 180 ºC for 10 minutes. Remove foil and bake until done, 10 to 30 minutes. Serve hot with yoghurt or thick cream.
