  • 1 litre water
  • salt to taste
  • 500 ml maize meal
  • 125 ml creamed sweetcorn
  • 125 ml sugar


Bring water to the boil.
Add salt, maize meal and sweetcorn, mix well and and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and add sugar.
Pour into a container with a tight-fitting lid and keep in a cool place for two days.
Taste to see whether the mixture is sour. If not, leave to stand for a further day.
Dilute with water before serving, if necessary.
Makes 1 litre.
