Ingredients (10)

400.00 g pasta — macaroni
125.00 g butter
1.00 onion — finely chopped
45.00 ml flour — cake
5.00 ml mustard — powder
750.00 ml milk — heated
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
250.00 ml cheddar cheese — grated
2.00 tomatoes — peeled, sliced
60.00 ml parmesan cheese — mixed with dried breadcrumbs

Method:

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil. Cook the pasta until al dente. Set aside.
2. Melt the butter and sauté the onion until transparent. Add the flour and mustard powder and cook for 1 minute.
3. Add milk gradually, stirring constantly, and cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
4. Add the Cheddar cheese and stir.
5. Pour the sauce over the macaroni and stir until noodles are well coated. Place in a greased ovenproof dish.
6. Arrange tomato slices on top and sprinkle with Parmesan. Dot with a little extra butter and bake in a preheated oven at 180 ºC for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
7. Serve with salad.
