500.00 g steak — chuck
1.00 kg carrots
2.00 kg potatoes
450.00 g onion
5.00 ml freshly ground black pepper
salt — pinch
30.00 ml butter
100.00 ml cream

Method:

Bring meat to the boil in a large pot with 4 litres water and salt. Boil gently for 1 1/2 hours.
Clean carrots, slice and add to the meat.
Peel potatoes and onion, chop coarsely and add to meat 30 minutes before end of cooking time.
Remove from heat and keep warm.
Drain off cooking liquid and reserve. Mash the vegetables together season and stir in butter and cream. Transfer to a warmed dish.
Serve with the meat, which can be cubed.
The meat and vegetables can be served together or separately.
