Homemade bread rolls

  • 1
    cake flour
  • 10
  • 30
  • 12
    dried instant yeast
  • 500
    lukewarm water
  • a little olive oil, for oiling the bowl


Preheat oven to 200 °C.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour and salt, then add sugar and yeast.
Add just enough water to form a soft dough.
Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic and a finger indent pops out quickly.
Place in an oiled bowl.
Cover with a damp tea towel or oiling wrap and leave to rise for 15 minutes.
Knock down the dough by punching your fist into the middle of it.
This deflates the air bubbles.
Divide dough into 10 or 14 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball or oval.
Score with handle of wooden spoon.
Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
