Guayabas en tacha (guavas in syrup)

  • 250 g piloncillo (palm sugar) or 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
  • 1 stick of cinnamon, broken up
  • 1 litre water
  • 12 guavas, not too ripe, peeled and halved
  • 45 ml tequila or liqueur of choice


Boil sugar, water and cinnamon for about 15 minutes, until a syrup starts to form.
Add guavas and cook on a medium heat for about 10 minutes or until tender.
Add liqueur.Can be served with yoghurt, cream or vanilla custard.
