Grilled fish with spices

    large onion, sliced

    cloves garlic, crushed

    ground cumin (jeera)

    cardamom seeds, crushed
  • 2
    whole cinnamon sticks
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

    small tomatoes, skinned and finely chopped

    hake fillets, skinned


Preheat the oven grill. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray. Heat the oil in a pan. Fry the onion and garlic until tender and translucent. Add the remaining ingredients except the tomatoes and fish fillets. Stir-fry for a few minutes before adding the tomatoes. Simmer for about 10 minutes, then remove the cloves, cinnamon sticks and cardamom seeds. Salt and pepper the fish fillets. Place the fish on the prepared baking sheet and cover with aluminium foil. Cover and grill for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the aluminium foil, grill until the fish is done and flakes easily with fork. Pour over the sauce and serve with yellow rice and a green salad.
