Deep-Fried mielie balls with cheese

  • 750
    boiling water
  • 500
    mielie meal
  • 250



Bring water to the boil. add salt and cook pap according to instructions on the packet, storring occasionally to achieve a soft but not runny consistency.
Cool mixture.

Take spoonfuls of pap and flatten on palm of hand, place diced cheese in the middle of pap, form into balls (the size of a golf ball), making sure the cheese is enclosed completely.

Roll in beaten egg and then bread or corn crumbs, deep fry in hot oil.
Drain on greaseproof paper.

Serve with tomato and onion gravy.(Makes 24)
