Ingredients (9)

750.00 ml milk
30.00 ml cocoa powder
150.00 ml sugar
65.00 ml butter — melted
10.00 bread — day-old, crusts removed, cubed
4.00 eggs — extra-large
2.00 ml salt
5.00 ml cinnamon — ground
125.00 ml mixed nuts — finely chopped

Method:

Preheat the oven to 160 ºC (325 ºF). Butter an ovenproof dish or spray with non-stick spray. Blend a little of the milk with the cocoa and add the sugar. Mix well. Bring the remaining milk and butter to the boil. Add the cocoa mixture and mix well, heating the mixture until it comes to the boil. Stir continuously. Place the bread in the prepared dish and pour over the cocoa mixture. Leave until the bread has absorbed most of the liquid. Whisk together the eggs, salt and cinnamon and pour over the bread mixture. Sprinkle with nuts and bake for about 1 hour or until the mixture has set. Serve lukewarm with custard.
