Chunky smoked beef sandwiches

  • 1
    rump steak
  • 2
  • 125
    balsamic vinegar
  • 1
    farmhouse bread
  • butter for spreading
  • 125
    horseradish cream
  • 4
    ripe tomatoes
  • rocket to serve


Place the beef in a shallow dish.
Add the onions and the vinegar.
Season and leave to marinate for half an hour.
Grill, braai or smoke the meat until done to your liking.
Butter slices of thick farmhouse bread, spread a generous amount of horseradish cream on each slice.
Top with thick slices of beef, tomato slices and rocket. Wrap in greaseproof paper and tie with string.
Serve with boiled eggs and strong pickled onions.
