Ingredients (16)

BROWNIES
375.00 ml flour — cake
250.00 ml white sugar
45.00 ml cocoa powder
7.00 ml Baking powder
5.00 ml Bicarbonate of soda
salt — just a pinch
10.00 ml vanilla — essence
15.00 ml vinegar
125.00 ml apple sauce
250.00 ml water — lukewarm
FUDGE ICING
65.00 ml milk — fat-free
10.00 ml vanilla — essence
125.00 ml apple sauce
125.00 ml icing sugar
125.00 ml white sugar
125.00 ml cocoa powder

Method:

Preheat oven to 200 ºC.
Grease and line a deep non-stick baking tin or roasting tin.
BROWNIES:
Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl.
Mix together vanilla essence, vinegar and apple sauce.
Stir into dry ingredients alternately with water. Mix well until mixture is smooth.
Spoon into prepared tin and bake in oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 150 ºC and bake for a further 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, make the fudge icing. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and heat, stirring until well combined.
Allow cake to cool slightly in the tin before pouring over the icing.
Cut into squares and serve immediately.
