Chilli con carne

  • 2
    olive oil
  • 2-3
    onions, chopped
  • 2
    garlic cloves, crushed
  • 500
    beef mince
  • 2 x 400g
    chopped and peeled tomatoes
  • 2
    red chillies, chopped
  • 2
    green chillies, chopped
  • 1
    ground cumin
  • 1
    ground coriander
  • 1
    stick cinnamon
  • Good shake of Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 x 400g
    can red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 x 400g
    borlotti beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1
    large bunch coriander leaves, roughly chopped


1 hour 10 mins
Fry the onion and garlic until soft, then add the mince.
Flavour with salt and pepper and fry until brown, add the Worcestershire sauce and fry for another minute or two.
Add the tomatoes, chillies, cumin, ground coriander, cinnamon stick and most of the coriander leaves.
Bring to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for ¾ to 1 hour.
Add the beans and mix through, simmer for another 5 minutes.
Serve with a coriander leaves on top.
