Chef's salad

    heads of lettuce
  • 150
    ham, sliced into strips
  • 150
    tongue, sliced into strips (optional)
  • 150
    Edam or Gouda cheese, sliced into strips
  • 2
    tomatoes, quartered
  • 1
    green pepper, sliced into strips
  • 2
    eggs, hard boiled and sliced
  • 200
  • white vinegar


Break the lettuce into leaves, wash and dry well. Lay the lettuce leaves on a flat serving platter and arrange the ham, tongue and cheese on top. Garnish with tomato quarters, green pepper and egg. Dilute the mayonnaise with a mixture of wine vinegar and water to form a fairly thin salad dressing. Serve the dressing separately so that everyone can help themselves. Serves 6 as a salad or 4 as a light meal.
