200.00 g butter — or margerine
5.00 ml mustard — powder
1.00 bread — white loaf
1.00 onion — medium, finely chopped
250.00 g bacon — rindless
200.00 g cheddar cheese — grated

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180 ºC ( 350 ºF) and keep aluminium foil and a baking sheet at hand. Season the butter or margarine with the mustard powder. Slice the loaf of bread at 1 cm intervals, but do not slice all the way through to the bottom of the loaf. Spread both sides of each slice with the flavoured butter or margarine. Fry the onion and bacon together until cooked. Chop the bacon, mix the Cheddar cheese and press the mixture between the bread slices. Spread the remaining flavoured butter or margarine on the outside of the loaf. Press the slices of the bread together and wrap the loaf in aluminium foil. Place the loaf on the baking sheet and bake for 35 minutes. Serve hot as a light meal or with braaivleis.
