Black forest trifle

    custard powder

    cocoa powder

    ready-made chocolate sponge cake, or Swiss roll

    black cherries
  • 125
    sweet sherry
  • 250
    cream, whipped
  • flaked almonds, cherries or chocolate flake, to garnish


Mix the custard powder, cocoa powder, sugar and 50 ml of the milk together to form a smooth paste. Place the remaining milk in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Add a little of the hot milk to the custard powder mixture, then stir into the saucepan of hot milk. Reduce the heat and stir continuously until custard thickens. Set aside to cool. Slice the cake and place half the slices into a glass bowl. Mix the liquid from the can of cherries and the sherry together and sprinkle half over the cake. Spread the cherries evenly over the cake. Place the remaining cake on top of the cherries and sprinkle with remaining liquid. Pour over the cooled custard and top with the whipped cream. Garnish with flaked almonds or chocolate flakes and cherries. Serves: 4-6 Preparation time: 20 minutes
