Beef stew with green beans

    5ml oil

    2 rashers lean bacon, chopped, fat discarded

    1 large onion, peeled and diced
  • 0
    2ml garlic flakes or 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 0
    400g goulash meat, cubed, fat discarded
  • 0
    15ml Worcester sauce
  • 0
    1ml paprika
  • 0
    1ml ground cloves
  • 0
    Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 0
    10ml beef stock powder
  • 0
    250ml frozen green beans or 500ml uncooked raw green beans or 1 x 410g sliced green beans, drained
  • 0
    30 ml lower GI oats

1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan, add the bacon, onion and garlic and gently fry until the onion is transparent.
2. Add the meat, Worcester sauce, spices, pepper and stock powder. Fry for 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently.
3. Add the green beans and oats and simmer, with the lid on, for another 20-30 minutes. Add water as needed if the stew gets too thick.
4. Serve with lower GI rice (boil 185 uncooked rice to serve 4), vegetables and salad.
