Bean relish

  • 250
    dry sugar beans
  • 45
  • 2
    onions, finely chopped
  • 1
    clove garlic, crushed
  • 1
    chicken stock cube
  • 125
    hot water
  • salt and pepper to taste


Soak beans in water overnight. Drain water, add fresh water to cover beans and cook until soft, about two hours. Melt margarine and sauté onion and garlic until soft, add chicken stock cube, dissolved in hot water and cooked beans, season and cook through for about 15 minutes, stirring to make stew mushy.
