Ingredients (12)

3.00 green apples — cored, peeled, quartered
280.00 g flour — cake
10.00 ml Baking powder
2.00 ml salt
30.00 ml butter
2.00 eggs — lightly beaten
water — iced
cloves — whole
SYRUP
500.00 ml water
400.00 g sugar
5.00 ml cinnamon — ground
30.00 ml butter

Method:

Preheat the oven to 180 ºC (350 ºF). Grease an ovenproof dish. Place the apples in a little salted water and set aside. Sift the dry ingredients together and rub in the butter. Add the eggs and enough water to form a stiff dough. Roll out the dough thinly and cut into 12 squares. Place an apple quarter on each dough square and fold the corners together. Brush the edges with water and secure the corners with cloves. Arrange the dumplings in the prepared dish.
Heat all ingredients for the syrup in a saucepan and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Simmer for about 10 minutes. Pour the syrup over the, apple parcels and bake for about 40 minutes or until the apples are soft and the dough is baked through. Cover the dish after about 20 minutes if the dumplings become too dark and the apples are not yet tender. Serves 6-8.
