Marmite cake

    softened butter
  • 350
    ml
    self-raising flour
  • 5
    ml
    baking powder
  • 200
    ml
    caster sugar
  • 2
    extra-large eggs
  • 90
    ml
    milk
  • 20-30
    ml
    Marmite
  • 45-60
    ml
    butter
  • 250
    ml
    grated Cheddar cheese
 

Method

With its Marmite and butter topping and sprinkling of cheese this sweet cake was a huge hit in the ’70s among our Let’s Cook readers.

The kids at our photoshootcouldn’t get enough of it.

1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C and grease a 22-cm cake tin with nonstick spray.

2. Cake In a large bowl beat the ingredients with an electric beater for 2-3 minutes or until well blended and smooth.

Turn into the cake tin, spreading it evenly. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until firm to the touch.

3. Topping Mix the Marmite and butter and spread over the hot cake. Sprinkle some cheese, then its ready to serve!
