PARTNER CONTENT: How to make chocolate Easter cake in a jar

12 Apr 2019

With school holidays around the corner (again!) and Easter on our doorstep, we wanted to share a fun and delicious way to spend time with your kids - by making a chocolate cake in a jar!

It's so easy to bake and makes for a really cute addition to your Easter dessert table. You could even hang them in the garden ready for eager chocolate hunters.

The recipe is simple!

80g self-raising flour
40 ml vegetable oil
3 eggs - beaten
50g sugar
25g cocoa powder
25g melted butter

Butterscotch sauce:

55g butter
180g brown sugar
100ml cream

Method: Preheat the oven to 180'C and grease 3 jars with melted butter.

Combine self-raising flour with sugar and cocoa powder.

Mix eggs and oil and add to the dry ingredients.

Pour spoonfuls of batter into the jars - filled to halfway.

Place jars in a Bain Marie and bake in the oven for 12 - 15 min.

Remove the jars from the hot water straight away.

To make the butterscotch sauce, melt the butter and sugar in a medium saucepan. Once the sugar begins to caramelise, remove from the heat and add the cream while swirling the pot.

Pour the sauce over the cake and sprinkle with chocolate chips and/speckled eggs.
