Smart cooking can save you money

05 Mar 2015

I always feel smart when I am cooking.  I’m not one of those blessed people who can balance a blender on their head whilst dicing vegetables and icing a cake, but I still feel like I’m adding value as I produce something tasty to eat.

We are all about #SmartCooking at the moment here at Food24 – what is #SmartCooking you ask? Well we have interpreted it as cooking with the intention of saving electricity and being more efficient in the kitchen. Whether you are cooking a meal for 2 or entertaining for 12 it’s about being innovative and doing your bit to ease the load.

I follow Ultimate Braai Master host, Justin Bonello on just about every social media platform, and he is championing this cause at the moment –you can see that not only is he saving electricity,  but he is cutting down on all his own household bills.  He has even had an Eco Audit!  It’s pretty cool. Check out how you can lower your own electricity bill with these tips.

At Food24 we are trying to get everyone into the #SmartCooking mood with tips on outdoor cooking, braaing, how to use this amazing invention called The Wonderbag and we’ve also tried a few of these fabulous one-pot wonders. They are delicious.

So let us know if you are #SmartCooking by tweeting us on @food24 or instagramming us on @food24_sa with the tag #SmartCooking and we’ll make sure we share them all over the site. And not just that – we’re also giving away an awesome gas braai worth R25 000! All you have to do is cook smart with a one-pot dish to enter. Check it out here.

Let’s try and make a difference – and you’ll see you’ll be saving some money too.

Have fun!
