Caldo verde (green soup) - The national dish of Portugal- serve with thick slices of maize bread.

Prego rolls - A garlicky marinade.

Bolinhos de bacalhau (cod and potato dish) - Cod and mashed potato filling.

Baccala bites - Serve with crispy bruschetta, a green salad or a shaved carrot and coriander salad.

Chicken Madeira - The Portuguese have always done magical things with chicken and the Madeira is no different.

Pork with clams a alantejana (pork dish) - Serve with a red wine from Quinta do Carmo to bring out the luxurious rich tastes.

Pasteis de nata (pastry) - Warm out of the oven and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, heavenly.

Bife a café (beef and chips) - A delicious mustard slathered steak served with chips.

Cozido a portuguesa - Serve with a good Ribatejo wine and crusty bread.
