Commonly found in the dams and vleis of the southern region of the Cape. The fresh ones are available from May to November, while canned waterblommetjie is also available canned all year round.

Use: Mainly known as the most important ingredient in Waterblommetjie bredie, where it is used as a vegetable. It's often used in other savoury dishes with chicken, in pies, quiches and soups.
