South African Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, will deliver the much anticipated Budget Speech on Wednesday 22 February. In honour of this we've compiled a list of 5 budget-friendly recipes for you to make.

Whipping up these gems won't break the bank and they're quite lip-smacking too!

Tacos filled with savoury mince - you'll be surprised by how much you can get out of a packet of versatile ground beef. In this simple dish the fragrantly braised mince, topped with lettuce and grated cheese will make for a yummy light meal and you will most probably have all the ingredients in your cupboard already.

This paprika chicken with chickpeas and fennel will only take 20 minutes of your time and not that much out of your pocket either.

This shepherd’s pie ticks all the midweek boxes - quick, easy, delicious - and it's budget friendly too!

You can always count on pasta when you're looking for something filling, comforting and cheap! This 20-minute chicken and spinach pasta does not disappoint and it's a lovely dish to always have on speed dial.

A flavoursome, budget-friendly vegetarian dish comes in the form of this tomato, spinach and coriander dhal.
