#SaltBae has finally opened a restaurant in New York

The king of internet memes is now slicing the steaks of New Yorkers and treating them to his trademark salting maneuver.

Remember #SaltBae? The pop culture superstar that shot to internet fame in 2017 when his signature salt move went viral? Memes of him circulated our streams for a good month afterward with legit celebs like David Beckham even attempting a #SaltBae imitation.

The Turkish butcher (who looks anything but a butcher) in his trademark tight white Tshirt and dark round sunglasses, actually had six successful restaurants before his viral video took the world by storm. He's since opened a dozen more - obviously now leveraging the #SaltBae name and is said to be opening one soon in London. 

His latest restaurant, Nusr-Et in New York's City's Midtown is, as one would expect, extremely popular but not because of the food. 

The Observer's review mentions that the "meat was tough with globs of fat and grizzle, and severely lacking in flavour" while The New York Post's critic said the "high-school-grade French fries came to the table 20 minutes before the steak did, and turned cold" and that "it isn’t ready yet for prime time, no matter how many likes Salt Bae gets on Instagram."

It's strange because in a rather Black Mirror-esque way, poor Nusret Gökçe (#SaltBae's real name) is now locked into this online character that he's created, which catapulted him to fame.  This obviously brought with it substantial financial benefits - which he will only continue to aquire if he flogs the #SaltBae horse. It must get a bit tiring (not to mention boring) sprinkling salt on stuff...
