Top 10 spaghetti dishes

From spaghetti bolognaise to carbonara... we owe it all to pasta.

It was Sophia Loren who famously claimed to owe her iconic looks to pasta. Aaah. Spaghetti. That weekly staple. But what do you do with it next? Or have you got a great recipe or two that you stick to already?

When I feel like a good pasta dish, few things beat the flavours in this effortless roasted tomato sauce. For quick meals in summer I also love tossing cooked spaghetti with panfried artichokes, chili and garlic. Another favourite is a combination of fresh tomato, rocket and ricotta spiked with some olives or anchovies.

Here are 10 of our favourite recipes using spaghetti:

1. Summer spag bol
A lighter, brighter and greeener version of everyone's favourite pasta.

2. Chicken bolognaise

Use turkey or chicken mince in this recipe for a lighter alternative. Serve with sliced avocado.

3. Ostrich steak bolognaise
Ostrich meat is a low-fat alternative to red meat and delicious in this ragu.

4. Pork banger spaghetti
Try adding grated courgette at the last minute to transform this dish into a healthier one, that kids will love.

5. Meatball pasta
Do something different with mince. Leftover meatballs are handy for snack boxes.

6. Tuna herb pasta

A good one to remember - delicious and easy to assemble from cupboard staples.

7. Spaghetti alla carbonara

Try adding a handful of peas or baby spinach to this quick and tasty dish.

8. Quick chicken liver pasta

Full of flavour - this combination of mushrooms, sherry and chicken livers work surprising well.

9. Spaghetti alla puttanesca
Real comfort food. If you are vegetarian, just omit the anchovies in this dish.

10. Spaghetti frittata
This is a great way to use up leftover cooked pasta.
