The Wine Route that keeps getting better

Checkers has changed the way you buy wine.

31 May 2013

A while back, buying wine in your local supermarket was unheard of – that is if you wanted anything good. Then, one supermarket asked: “Why?” and began a journey that changed this for the better.

That supermarket is Checkers, and if you visit their wine department today, you’ll not only be able to choose from some of the best local estates; you’ll also be able to pick up international wines from some of the world’s best wine-producing countries.

They started by making sure that they bring you wines from over 80 leading estates and negotiating to bring these wines to you at the same prices as at the estates.

So buying a wine at Checkers is like buying a wine straight from the cellar door. And, this collection is ever growing to ensure you’re always offered the latest vintages, premium & award-winning wines and the newest releases.

Then, they introduced their Odd Bins range. This is an exclusive collection of limited releases of famous wine brands that they bring to you at a fraction of the original price. These wines are hand-selected by a panel of judges that include the likes of Jan Boland Coetzee and Michael Fridjhon.

Now the only catch here is that there are limited quantities of each bin so if you find a bin you like, you should stock up on it, or better yet, use their online bulk ordering service to order it in bulk.

Wines of the World

But they’ve recently taken this all a step further – Checkers have crossed their borders to bring you over 50 wines from 8 of the world’s best wine-producing countries as part of their Wines of the World range. These include the most popular wines from each country like real French Champagne, Italian Chianti and Spanish Rioja. So, now you can also visit the world’s wine routes when you visit Checkers.

With Checkers, every South African can enjoy our country’s top wines, as well as some of the world’s best. And since Checkers prides themselves on always getting better, their wine offering will also just keep getting better – a toast to that!
