Papaya is deliciously sweet and packed with nutrients on its own, so we don’t blame you if you devour it immediately after buying it. However, it’s also super versatile – as these recipes prove. Here are our favourite ways to jazz up papaya.

1. In a smoothie

Make a creamy drink by blending papayas with banana and plain yoghurt, or thicken it with the addition of almonds.

Recipes to try: Ginger, honey and papaya smoothie and papaya, lime and mint smoothie

2. In a salsa

A papaya salsa is the perfect accompaniment to a spicy curry, as Zola Nene showed us.

Or you can make a sweet version for a dessert with tropical flavours:

3. Bake it

Tired of banana bread? Give your lockdown loaf a fresh spin by replacing bananas with papayas.

Recipe to try: Papaya loaf

4. Juice it

Give the impressive nutritional value of papayas an extra boost by blending it with carrots and oranges.

Recipe to try: Energising carrot, orange and papaya juice

5. In a salad

Papaya pairs beautifully with avocado – it’s the perfect mix for a refreshing, healthy salad.

Recipes to try: Replace prawn cocktail with a prawn, payaya and avocado salad or add some fresh chillies for a Mexican spin.

Remember to submit your favourite original papaya recipe to Neofresh to win R10,000! Entries close 14 August 2020. Click here to enter now.
