Bread and pap have always been essentials in many South African homes, but with the recent drought which shot up maize prices, many consumers were forced to choose bread over pap. This created a demand for more bread but according to Business Insider now that the drought up north is less severe, people are able to afford pap again. Yay!

So how have you been cooking your pap? When we think of pap, we picture an early morning breakfast but what most people don’t know is that there are so many various ways to cook pap and many unique styles to incorporate the maize staple. These recipes will have you cooking your pap differently.

Biltong, mushroom and feta pap tert is probably the most authentic pap recipe we have ever come across. Instead of making a salad or plain pap as a braai side, create this warm, creamy recipe. We are sure it will be a family favourite in your household.

Pap with custard might seem like a strange combination, one thing that they both have in common is they’re both creamy, and these pap and custard tarts will make a deliciously warm dessert this Winter.
