Been here twice before and their male manager / owner needs to learn to at least smile at customers, he is miserable and the food mediocre so I could never understand some of the rave reviews

Thava Midrand was recommended to me by a friend. Went there yesterday. Food was fantastic, nice portions (butter chicken really recommended). Friendly service. Will go again

I have eaten in lots of Indian restaurant around the world but Thava in Norwood must be the most authentic one. From the small tapas starters to main courses to share the array of flavours was fantastic. Definitely a win for Johannesburg

Tried out the place two weeks ago Place was packed .Food was excellent , Waiters were friendly and efficient . Will definately try them again.

What rubbish! I have never ever experienced in my whole life. Firstly, food took at least 45 minutes to arrive, then our dirty plates were not taken away or offered desserts. When I went to ask what was going on, I was told the computer was down. What does that have to do with the terrible service?! It took 4 people about another 45 minutes to write out an invoice. We were not even asked if we wanted anything else which we definitely would've. A sorry was not even said to our faces. We were not offered a coffee or anything once complaining so our custom seems worthless. As for the Indian lady behind the desk (manager or owner), she was giving me the dirtiest looks ever as if we had done something wrong. I urge you all to please pass this on as I would hate for anyone else to have this experience. Rather spend your money elsewhere.

No South Indian food! We saw this restaurant mentioned in Food24 and decided to give it a shot, especially since the restaurant's speciality is South Indian cuisine. My boyfriend is a South Indian and we both love the food from the South and especially Kerala! We don't live in Joburg, so drove down for the weekend and went to Thava on Saturday night. Place was packed but luckily they managed to find a table for us. We spent almost half an hour going through the menu, debating the different choices and combinations to order. Finally, when we made up our mind, we called the waiter and started to order...only to be informed that none of the South Indian specialities were available. As we were only planning to have South Indian food, this obviously was a big disappointment for us. If we had been informed of this upon arrival, we would rather have gone somewhere else instead of wasting our own time like this. So in future, check if they do have all food on the menu available!
