I was in JHB for the weekend and I had heard about Sitar, an Indian restaurant tucked away in a corner in Cresta shopping centre, so decided to check it out. When we arrived and noticed most of the tables occupied buy Indian patrons I suspected we were in for an authentic treat and Sitar did not disappoint. Both service and food were excellent. I ordered the khadai dhal (medium) accompanied with a a portion of jeera rice and found myself reluctant to combine them as each was a complete taste sensation on their own. They even got the almonds in the jeera rice just right. You know, toasty and crispy but not flacky. My partner opted for the aloo mattar gobi which was saucier than what were used to from the places in Cape Town but utterly moreish. The rest of our party ordered meat dishes ranging from the chicken vindaloo (hot) to lamb korma, butter chicken and lamb rogan josh and each had the same response, quite simply, "Delicious!" Portions were generous (everybody took doggy bags home) and despite the addition of 2 bottles of wine, a couple of beers and naan breads the bill averaged R150 per head.

The food was great and the prices were very reasonable. I liked the laid back atmosphere.
