I would just like to say that royale makes the best burgers in cape town and their sweet potato fries rock but there is jet one problem that spoils the place. Someone please shoot that DJ. The music in there could drive a person to the nut house.

Dear Hugo, thank you for your reply, that unfortunately was not the case here.BUT we have eaten here again and the food was absolutly outstanding, the service was friendly and efficient and someone had even taken the trouble to put fresh stems in a vase on each table. An exceptional evening-thank you.

Hi Ian, Firstly, I would like to apologise for any confusion that may have occurred during your visit to Royale. Firstly, Royale does not take bookings for the 'downstairs' restaurant. We do have an entire floor upstairs with the same menu, purpose-built for bookings. As Friday's are extremely busy, Royale keeps a waiting list for walk-in customers, who are sent up to our Waiting Room if no tables are available. When a table becomes available, it is reserved, and the customers at the top of the waiting list are called down. This could easily be misconstrued as a waitress keeping the table for a "friend", but is rather, the fairest system that we have thought of. Again, I apologise for any confusion, but might add that any questions could have been addressed on the night by one of our managers. I hope this clarifies any questions you may have, and hope to see you back soon. Hugo Berolsky

May 21st Friday night. We eat here fairly regularly, and the food is very good, however nothing can make up for a lying waitress, who obviously reserved a booth table downstairs for her 2 friends, and told us that the tables had been previously booked, although she could not find the booking list, and the previous time she told us that they do not do bookings downstairs????and there were still 4 tables open ,when we left ours to eat at Mojitos next door.So are specific tables booked for specific people???and why not be honest-the public are not stupid!

It's my favourite, favourite restaurant. Their burgers are insanely good, and the portions are really generous. I'll keep coming back!

We went again last night and was seated upstairs - quite a change in scenery - we thought it was a different restaurant! What did not change was the food and service, both was equally great. I suggest be brave and order something out of the ordinary ? a cheese burger will just not suffice. Besides, let everyone double up for a minimal price and share their ecstasy. Just leave room for those delectable milkshakes, the large do the trick. And a bit more. By the way, take your friends. Doing so may resist your urge to take photos of your food. It is not the biggest burger in town (it comes close) but is probably the best value.

I visited Royale one Friday eve with some friends - totally unexpected stop off, we had no reservation. Had a good time though, I cant believe no one has told me about the restaurant sooner! Everything was amazing - the food, the ambience, the decor, the bathrooms, the cushions, the swingy jazz music - I loved it! We never had the best of service though - waited more than 30 mins for drinks, but there were only two waitresses on duty and it was a full house, the bartender was new, so it was understandable; if the waitress informed us before we told the manager, we wouldn't have even raised the issue. When the food and drinks arrived, it was really good, so well worth the wait!! Can't wait to return!

Karibu "Karibu is one of my favourite restaurants to pop in for a dinner that never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed with a distinct South African feel that's both elegant and upmarket. The service is friendly and efficient - I always rely on the manager (Bruce) for meal recommendations which thus far has been spot-on, yet I'm sure the menu as a whole is good......"
