A must on every shopping list is a visit to Raith Gourmet, a deli with a long standing tradition. "Raith Gourmet" was founded by Helmut Raith, who moved to the Cape from Germany in 1989 to open his own butchery in the mother city. You can find a lot of really good quality meat in South Africa but fine German meat products are in short supply. Raith’s liver pate alone is offered in ten different varieties. It is no wonder that business is buzzing, day in, day out. Even well-known German sports celebrities such as Franz Beckenbauer and Jurgen Klinsmann have shopped there.

The brand’s success is constantly growing, with a large-scale production site now also operated on the outskirts of Cape Town.

Today the core business of Raith Gourmet is managed by Chris Harbeck and his wife Maxi Huber. The son of German parents, Chris spent some time in Germany and Austria to successfully refine his butcher's skills, and this native Namibian has now been living in South Africa for 14 years. With the opening of his latest business venture in the Cape Town suburb of Constantia, the High Constantia Farm Stall, Chris and Maxi are expanding their range of products; In addition to the traditional Raith Gourmet range there are also farm products, organic products, fresh fruit and vegetables.

As accustomed from the Gardens Centre, you can relish all the Raith specialities in their integrated on-site bistro or just “shop by” to get great cooking tips from Chris and his team.

When asked about his business philosophy, there is only one thing important to Chris: consistency. Consistency in quality, service and supply. And their success has proven him right: Raith Gourmet has already won the most coveted restaurant scene award, the Special Star Award, four times. In addition Raith has won numerous national and international gold medals for its meat and sausages. So, who’s not hungry yet...
