I agree, why do you have to "SMILE" to the waiter to expect good service? I'm not saying be rude, but c'mon man, that's their job.

Sorry, but why should the customer HAVE to smile to gain any form of decent service from a waiter? If you are employed as a waiter, then be a waiter. It is not a show, but a restaurant and customers should not have to put up with tempremental waiters, that will only do their jobs with the right attitude from customers!

The food is great, love the vibe. Be nice to your waitor and you will get the great service that most if not all of the friendly customers get. You have to realise that you are not stepping into a 5 star restaurant and your attitude determines your experiance!Dont get upset if you have to ask your waitor for a wine glass or some attention, once you show alittle SMILE the waitors will bend over backwards to help you! After all it is all worth it. The food is honestly amazing. Seafood Linguine a must and the lemon tart is the BEST thing you have ever tasted!

What's all the fuss about?

Been looking forward to trying the Olympia Cafe for yonks! I've read about the endless waiting, the bad service, the sublime food and "the best ciabatta on the peninsula" and well, maybe it was not a typical day because the wait wasn't bad at all, our waiter was great, my breakfast was mediocre at best (how on earth can a mushroom that looks that good have so little flavour?) and the ciabatta that I bought from the bakery shop and served with soup for dinner last night is beaten hands down by the Heat 'n Eat one you pick up at Woolies. Will be back to try lunch / dinner some time - maybe brekkie is just not their thing.

Was in CT on holiday last November, and we must have visited Olympia about 4 or 5 times. Every time we went there, the food was superb, and all the waiters were freindly and helpful. Not sure why everybody else is complaining about the service. And obviously you will have to wait for a table. The place is as big as a shoebox, and probably only has 10 tables in it! But that's all part of it's charm.

I've often eaten at the Olympia Cafe and Deli, the food is varied and never disappoints but the service is always poor to appalling and the wait for a table interminable. I have often wondered if it is part of the training - be rude and ignore the diners - after all, they are only paying the bill. Each time I wonder why I go back, but... the food is good, the ambiance different and the loo a whole new experience never to be repeated!

Always great food, but unfortunately your enjoyment is pretty much determined by which waiter you get. Often you are ignored. Last time we were there we waited three hours for our table only to be told many of the menu items were no longer available, that we had to place our order before even being put at a table? at no time were we offered a drink, I had to go and ask for wine glasses from a waiter who was less than friendly. Pity, the food is great and the backroom staff great. change the waiters, they try too hard to be pissed off with life.

The staff at Olympia ruined my birthday celebration and treated myself and my guest like we were invisible. We had to get up to ask for service, clean our own table, didn't get bread until we asked for it and were totally ignored. It wouldn't have seemed to bad if people who arrived after us didn't get so much better service - but then they seemed to be friends. Pity about the apathetic service - the food was good as always.

The food is awesome. Always fresh. Always innovative. The service on the other hand is a diabolical. At first I thought it was because they were busy. Then I spotted the waiters and waitress having their own little chit chat behind the coffee machine. You know the service is horrendous when you have to leave your seat to find someone to place a drinks order and then do the same twice more to place a food order and then to get the bill...

Karibu "Karibu is one of my favourite restaurants to pop in for a dinner that never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed with a distinct South African feel that's both elegant and upmarket. The service is friendly and efficient - I always rely on the manager (Bruce) for meal recommendations which thus far has been spot-on, yet I'm sure the menu as a whole is good......"
