Went for dinnerf at la Campagnola. Friendly staff and excellent tasting food made this restuarant a frequent with me. Thank you guys.

At Anna and Luca. Why stop at Food24? Read the reviews on Rossows restaurants and Tripadvisor. Notice a Pattern? And yes Anna, I did take the trouble to visit ( Not by choice...it was a company dinner) That evening made up my mind.

Anna and Luca, please check the restaurant/food websites and take note of how many good reviews there are. To make my point, at this moment the front page of this websites’ restaurant reviews reflect 6 excellent, 1 average and 3 poor reviews. Restaurant patrons most certainly do not only vent their dissatisfaction, they also advertise good quality and value. This is what consumerism is all about. Having all those poor reviews seems to be an indication of where your restaurant is

Restaurant websites are typically public venting platforms and admittedly they have their function in giving the man in the street a voice. That said, at La Campagnola we serve in the region of 17,000 tables per annum, have operated successfully for 20 years and frequently wonder why so few of the positive comments from satisfied customers ever see the light of day? Hence may we recommend that you visit us and make up your own mind? We faithfully acknolwledge that we are not perfect all the time and mistakes do happen, but We would be most grateful to host you. I am not shocked to see the many bad reviews of this place. Unfortunately i too experienced the same poor service yesterday by a lady named Anna. I will never go back to this place again. The success of the 3 business i own was build placing emphasis on customer care and she restaurant dismally fails!!!

We have only experienced one visit [so far] to La Campagnola and would go back in a heartbeat if we did not live in Wales, UK. We visited with family who live in Jo’burg in December 2012. All I can say is WOW! We are not really sure where all the other reviewers are coming from. We had nothing but the best time ever – one of the most enjoyable evenings we had during our three week holiday in RSA. The restaurant has a really lovely atmosphere – just look at the photographs on their website – doesn’t it look fabulous! The area around the bar is lovely to have a pre-dinner drink and to settle in again and relax with coffee/drinks after the meal. Oysters are quite a favourite of ours and we found them to be of very high quality and really enjoyed them. Our party of six all had something different after the oysters and we all loved what we had – I had baked peppers with anchovies which was gorgeous and followed that with the special line caught fish and I can’t remember the name because it was unusual and not that known to me – again delicious. I chose the wine to go with the meal for everyone and the Sauvignon Blanc was much enjoyed by all – I think we had four bottles! We had Dom Pedros as well as a different sweet each! This was a celebratory meal - extremely reasonable for what we had - and we had such a great time with quick and courteous service and when the Chef Luca came out to have a chat he was charming. Now I have taken the time to post this review because I feel strongly that people are very quick to complain. Truly praise and compliments should be evident when applicable [a very important feedback I feel] to an establishment that delivers such wonderful surroundings, good quality, fresh food and attentive service. I would suggest that if you like the look of La Campagnola on their website do book a table and go have a really smashing evening – you will to back again – we will when we are back in RSA – it will be our first reservation I am sure!

Thank you all for the honest comments, I see the other restaurants managers/owners comment on complaints and accommodate as far as possible. It is clear that this restaurant manger/owner just does not care and as the lady mentioned he has no interest and does not care. I will not be visiting this restaurant neither will I recommend this to others.

Great Disappointment: Poor Italian Cuisine and even worse customer service! Upon arrival at an empty restaurant we were abruptly asked by the manager on duty if we had made reservations - that which we hadn't but didn't anticipate a problem seeing plenty tables unoccupied at 8pm!They were clueless on how to make a Caipirinha- that had to be sent back because it had too much Cachaca! Our main - seafood pasta made me wonder if the Italians spend far too much time perfecting pasta to be ' al dente ' compromising on the other ingredients like seafood which become tough and chewy! Here the old wives tale about chewing your food more than 27 times needed to be applied!

A party of 10 of us had our Christmas function there on the 07th December. The bill, excluding wine, was over R5k...the food was ok but the service was extremely slow. The biggest issue was the rude attitude of the owner and her maganer. I won't waste my time and money with you again!

Horrible horrible horrible - the manager/owner (who ever he was) treated us with no respect!! We were quite a big party with children and his annoyance was ridiculous. Our waiters were quite good, but we waited very long for food (1.5 hours) and my pizza was THE WORST I have ever had! R115 for a Pizza? I've never had Pizza from Romans, but I'd rather do that next time than eat something THAT mediocre from what is believed to be a top class establishment! What a serious dissappointment :( Would not recommend to anyone!!!

I am very surprised to see this restaurant on Food 24s top 10 in Johannesburg. The whole place stank of cigar smoke and no one was very keen to do anything about it, even open a window. The food was terrible, dried out chicken, overcooked monkfish, overpriced pasta which we could get better at Fratellis. Very expensive and just not worth it.

we were charged R30 for a large still water that we never ordered. When we asked for it to be taken off the bill, we were told by the waitress that the owner charged us this because we had asked for extra parmasan cheese for our pasta. We took this up with the owner because it was dishonest . But she refused to take the still water off the bill saying that she needed to cover her costs for the extra parmasan cheese. She shouted after us accusing us of ordering salmon pasta that didn't go with cheese anyway. Embarassingly for her, we didn't order salmon pasta. The head chef then came out and confronted us on the street. We said they had lost two customers who regularly spend R500 per meal at their restaurant. We will never return and they have lost us for life and many of our friends. Any restaurant that pads the bill dishonestly should never be supported. The head chef said the reason why they didn't tell us they were going to charge us extra for the parmasan cheese upfront was because it was embarrassing. He's right. This speaks volumes of their contemptuous attitude. Check out hellopeter for more complaints of bad attitude by Anna.
