Food24 eats at... Kitchen Bar
Yes, it’s in a shopping centre. But it’s not just any shopping centre; it’s the Design Quarter, Fourways which is my personal best people-spotting, guy-perving spot. The restaurant itself is chic, minimalistic and spacious. Great bathrooms and since my mother always says ‘One must always judge an establishment on its powder rooms’ (my mother thinks she is a descendant of the royal family), then the Kitchen Bar is top notch.
Crises, these boys have covered everything. Try catching them out: ‘Risotto?’, ‘Pizza?’, ‘How about I make my own pizza?’, ‘Seafood platter?’, ‘Sushi?’, ‘I’ve got one – lamb shank!’ I enquired as to how they would identify themselves since they have such an extensive menu. ‘Fushion’ was the answer I got. ‘That’s what I said’ was my reply.
I suggest their prawn spring rolls for starters, followed by some people watching, then move on to their seafood platter, followed by some serious guy-perving, and once you’ve finished off two bottles of wine from their extensive wine list, join the table next to you because the guy is cute and ringless while your dining partner asks the waitress for her number.
It all depends if you factor in paying for the other tables bill, because, let’s be honest, two bottles down and you thought you were Bill Gates’s daughter. If you remain focused on your own table, you’re looking at R40 to R60 for starters and for mains, I worked out an average of R80- R150 (I’m clever like that).
Perving other diners, looking like you’re in the right place at the right time and having a stress-free, flavour-filled, wine-filled evening with friends. Or with the table next to you. Just ask them first if you can join them, people are funny like that.
