By far the best Chinese food in town. I've been going there regularly since it was near the Sturrock Dry Dock and yes, sometimes I've felt that the staff were not all that professional but the food more than makes up for the odd occasion when service levels dropped.

We eat out at least once a week at various restaurants in Cape Town. Our experience at Jewel Tavern was , by far, one of the worst eating-out experiences we have ever had. The food ,whilst being being tasty, is no cheaper than any other average restaurant in the CBD. It was on average R150 per person. The service was absolutely shocking. We arrived with two bottles of sparkling wine and , after waiting twenty minutes, preceded to open the bottles ourselves. At this point the waiter had not yet enquired whether one of the eleven people at the table would like a drink. As the evening continued we had to clear our own dirty glasses;plates and chopsticks. We regularly had to find the waiter to request further drinks. We had to go into the kitchen to find a staff member to complain about the assistance at our table. Only two other tables had customers. The hygiene of the restaurant was questioned as two ladies were cleaning a fish tank as food preparation took place. As I write this review I am in disbelief as I read my own words. Yet I sadly have not exagarated any of these happenings. I ask you to assist in ensuring that this kind of behavior is not tolerated in Cape Town, by not supporting this restaurant.

You can't get better than this anywhere in Cape Town. Superb food and service.

We have been going to the Jewel Tavern for over 20 years - since it was above the Taiwanese Seaman's Club in Cape Town harbour, then to the city centre and now to its new location. Went there on Valentine's night for the first time. Thankfully we were dropped off there as parking seems to be a bit of a problem with all the other restaurants in the area. Still the best and most consistent Chinese food we have found. There has never been a reason to complain about the quality (or quantity) of the food or the service. I hope that they are successful in their new location and we will continue to support them in future.

Best Chinese in Cape Town! What with overpriced, unfriendly pretentious restaurants popping up every year this sure is our number one Chinese to go to in Cape Town. I never got to their first location at the harbor but since moving to St. George’s Mall this has been one of our favorites. With so many Chinese restaurants exploding into Cape Town one sometimes is put off with such low standards of quality and service. Clean, always consistent and very welcoming Jewel Tavern always comes out tops. Our son has just turned four and as a family this is definitely a child friendly restaurant we look for. The only problem is we just wished more people knew about them. I wish them all the best with their new location in Kloof Street, their humility and great attention to service always gets us back. Not to mention the “fresh” dim sums are by far better than most well accredited places in Cape Town. Like everyone should have a favorite Italian, Curry, Sushi restaurant Jewel Tavern certainly is our number ONE choice for Chinese in Cape Town family and all.

Chinese food cannot get better than this! I've been dining at the Jewel Tavern for 18 years, since I was a little girl and for almost 2 decades, the authenticity and yummy-ness at the Jewel Tavern still amazes me! Can't wait to visit soon at their new location on Kloof street!

We make it a point to eat at the Tavern three - four times a month. The food is delicious the prizes are reasonable and the staff is extremly friendly and helpful.
