I had heard a lot about HQ so my girlfriend and I decided to try it out. I LOVE steak and I'm always very indecisive on what to get on a menu so no choice sounded like a good choice to me. After a few drinks they brought half a lettuce with some parmesan cheese on it which my pet rabbit would have loved. They then brought a 250g steak which was very good and up to standard with pretty much any steak house, in other words nothing different. So if you don't mind spending more money then something is worth HQ is a good choice but if you expect something different for your money don't go there!

Firstly, I don’t know what Ruby is talking about, they probably haven’t been out since the 40’s! The vibe in HQ on a Friday is fantastic, I was thrilled when I received my newsletter letting me know DJ Rene is back for HQ Fridays. Ruby – if you want a quiet dinner come in at 6 and be out by 8, or try any other night! Regarding the food, I have no idea what you’re talking about - other than the chips being great! The salad is delicious and the steak is always tender and cooked to perfection & value for money! I will remain a loyal HQ diner and look forward to my fab Friday nights!

HQ has to be one of the worst restaurants I have ever endured. The noise levels from the bar below made talking turn to shouting. The salad was bland just lettuce served in a manner befitting a fast food chain. The steak was horrible and I left half of it. The chips were wonderful. The place has cut every possible corner and doesn't know whether it is a niteclub or a restaurant and so does neither very well. I have owned both and something is very wrong there. I would never recommend this place nor return.

HQ Restaurant still remains my firm favourite restaurant to host my business lunches. Just got back to JHB and my colleagues are still talking about the fantastic lunch they had. The service was efficient and the steak (as always) was absolutely delicious. HQ is a great place to entertain guests as you know you will not be let down. The only question I have for them is - When are they opening one up in JHB.

Met up with a few mates after work at the HQ cocktail lounge for drinks and ended up staying for dinner. These are people that really know what they are doing, the salad was simple but superb and the Sirloin really made the night! The friendliness of the staff and the professionalism of their service added value to the experience. Will definetly be back soon.

This is one seriously good restaurant. What an interesting concept and the steak is superb - grilled as ordered. Simple delicious salad and perfect french fries . Mother grundies, pregnant or not should be refused entrance . Cocktails are very good.

I have to say that I was nervous going to this restaurant after reading the reviews, but it was excellent! Can't understand what the other reviews were going on about - must be another place. Best sirloin I've had and I love the decor. Concept is brave, and I think it works well, I'll be back there soon.

Ate here on Friday night. Was awful. The table we were given was above the club part. By 9pm we could not hear what the person next to us was saying. Not a great place for dinner conversation. The food was awful - you would think the steak would be excellent, but was perfectly average. Also, sauce served with raw egg is not the best for pregnant woman - but you don't have a choice if we don't want the vegetarian option of black mushrooms (served with same sauce). Chips were way too salty. The only good thing, according to the people who can drink alcohol, was the chilli mojita. Unfortunately I didn't even have that satisfaction.

I ate here for the first time recently with a few friends. The whole concept seems to be an excuse to make life easy for the kitchen. Service started well, but deteriorated severely once the restaurant started filling up. Considering that one has absolutely no choice as to what to eat, I expected the salad and steak to be fantastic. As it turned out, the salad was OK - saved by a good dressing. The steak was acceptably average. However there are quite a few places nearby that do a much better sirloin steak. The main attraction here seems to be the loud night-clubby bar. I can't see the restaurant lasting long in its current form.

Karibu "Karibu is one of my favourite restaurants to pop in for a dinner that never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed with a distinct South African feel that's both elegant and upmarket. The service is friendly and efficient - I always rely on the manager (Bruce) for meal recommendations which thus far has been spot-on, yet I'm sure the menu as a whole is good......"
