We have been going to this restaurant fairly regularly for the past 10 years. After an interval of bout a year, we decided to have lunch there on Friday 3 Jan. They used to have a great burger, "Fetapeno" on their menu, and I was surprised to see that this has been substituted by a new Texan burger with onions, Cheddar cheese and Chipotles. I ordered this, and when it arrived, I found the plate half covered in french fries, a table spoon of a coleslaw, and a large patty with the burger. There was a small trace of Cheddar cheese, lots of onions, and a few Chipotles. The "beef Patty" was dry and tasteless, but the onions and the Chipotles made up for that. My wife ordered Fajeetas, and when these arrived, she was informed by the waitress that the Fajeetas has been reduced to three small ones, and that she could order more, if needed. My wife decided that the meal required two more Fajeetas, which were supplied. Imagine our surprise when we were charged an additional sum for the two Fajeetas. For the price of the food, which has gone up by about 30% , and the quality reduced by the same amount since our previous visit, we will not be going back

Great atmosphere, very efficient waitress, crumbed chicken wing starter was very good with a delicious BBQ dip, my wife's quesedilla she said was delicious. I chose an Obama burger with extra bacon, a massive big roll, with burger patty half the diameter of the roll. The patty was dry, overcooked and tasteless. I had to order mayo (niracle whip)to be able to swallow the patty. Ordered a dessert to share with sweets, ice cream & nuts. The nuts were stale and old, the waitress got us another one with roasted almonds and it was delicious. I will go back, but I hope they do something about the patties. The Boks winning was the cherry on the top.

We seldom go to a restaurant twice but Fat Cactus will definitely see us again! Friendly car guard, greeted and seated and served promptly. Food was great, two minor complaints dealt with efficiently.Waitress never referred to us once as "You guys" (Sorry, it's my pet peeve.)And we won the rugby.

As I explained to Mark when I called him around 1.30 today, my reason for not calling him first thing this morning was that I was only notified at 9.30 about his complaint and undertook to investigate his complaints thoroughly before replying. This involved checking with all the staff (front and back)involved, checking our journal of the evening service and checking our CCTV footage. By doing this I felt I would get a more balanced picture of what happened last night. That said, the first thing I did was tuck into a breakfast bowl of our Texas beer chilli con carne and I reiterate what Mark's wife said "it was delicious" 6 hours later I'm feeling strong as Russia and in fact could happily do another bowl. Suffice to say the 15 minutes after leaving reaction his wife experienced had nothing to do with the Chilli con carne. I am still getting details from all the staff in question and have promised Mark a full report once I have completed my investigation.

Our experience at the Mowbray branch was unpleasant. It started off as mildly amusing that the only adjective our waitress could use was "amazing", which she prolifically used to describe every meal on the menu when we agreed to her offer of recommending dishes. It was mildly irritating that she got my wife's "moggy" rita order wrong - even after apparently writing everything down, but things went beyond amusement or irritation when I asked for a burger advertised as having Jalapenos and Cheddar, but which had none of the above, and tasted as bland as unseasoned, dry, browned mince, which could certainly not be described as "the most amazing burgers in Cape Town", as we were led to believe by our waitress, or worth just under R80. They reduced the charge to a plain burger which helped things feel more fair, but tasted no better. I was offered a replacement, but could not afford the extra 40 minute inevitable wait. My wife's quesedilla was apparently very tasty, however, soon after leaving, she felt very ill, and was in a bad state of health for the rest of the night. I phoned them about this, and received not even an apology - all the manager could manage to say was "Please give me your number, I will phone you back." He could not say why, or express his concern for my wife's health, or apologise, but seemed somehow to think that taking down my phone number with a (as yet unfullfilled) promise to phone me back somehow was the solution in these situations.
