Engruna Eatery is the newest addition to the La Boheme/La Bruixa family. Situated on the same block as its older siblings in Sea Point, the eatery offers gourmet wood-fired pizzas, burgers, a selection of local craft beer and wines, and milkshakes.
The interior mimics the set-up of its older sibling with the intimate, two-seater tables, banquet seating and long table for bigger groups. One can also take a seat at the bar or settle on the veranda outside, especially on those balmy summer’s eves.
On the craft beer front one will find the likes of Jack Black, CBC,
Darling Brew, Devil’s Peak and Brewers &Union as well as a handful
The menu was compiled by La Boheme Head Chef Painas Muzika and owners Faisal Khakoo and Anna Rasclosa and begins with a handful of starters like Jalapeno Poppers, Honey & Soya Glazed Pork Ribs and Teriyaki Chicken Wings before moving onto a small selection of salads – think traditional Caprese Salad with imported Buffalo Mozzarella, fresh basil & tomatoes, a Greek salad and the gorgonzola, aubergine preserve & homemade biltong salad. The selection lends itself to an array of tastes from the good old Classic Burger - beef patty with homemade basting, relish, dill, lettuce, tomato & mayo to the Lamb Burger - tzatziki, babaganoush, feta & grilled onion. One can add a number of topping to the Classic according what you’re craving – think Cheese Classic (cheddar or swiss), Bacon Classic (bacon & emmenthal) and Mushroom Classic (grilled brown mushroom, gorgonzola & homemade relish). The burger menu becomes more adventurous as one moves down the page with items like the Chilli burger (classic beef stacked high with mozzarella, grilled chillies & a homemade chilli sauce), the Pork Burger (Soya and honey glazed pulled pork with homemade tomato chutney) and the Ostrich Burger (guacamole, cheddar & homemade relish). The herbivores have also been catered for with the Fish Burger, Field Mushroom Burger and Vegan Burger (lentil & kidney bean patty, avo & homemade relish) and for the gluten-intolerant there are gluten-free rolls.
All burgers have a 180-200g patty and are served with homemade potato or sweet potato chips. If you can’t decide whether you’d prefer regular potato chips or sweet potato you can mix them up and have both or for something different look to the Parmesan & Truffle chips. There are also a bunch of sauces to choose from like Green Peppercorn, mushroom, Cajun mayo, basil & blue cheese or hot chilli sauce.
The wood-fired pizza menu is equally diverse in flavour and makes the most of the freshest, seasonal fare. Examples include the Honey & mustard glazed chicken, zucchini, red onion, avo & rocket pizza; the Slow braised lamb shank, mange tout, fresh basil, poached pears and a garlic roasted crème fraiche; Calamari & chorizo with caperberries, cherry tomatoes & rocket or Olives, artichokes, asparagus, roast peppers & mushrooms on a white sauce base, to name just a few.
For those with a sweet tooth choose from the chocolate brownie with ice cream, crème Brulee or Tiramisu or indulge in one of the signature milkshakes like Vanilla, Cookies & Cream, or the Malteser Milkshake or one with naughty twist like Banana & Bailey, Amaretto & Oreo or Creme de Menthe & Chocolate.
