My fiancé and I went for a drive on Sunday and decided to stop at Spier for lunch at restaurant Eight. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap and my fiancé ordered the Club Sandwich. The wine, the décor, the ambiance and everything else was excellent. Unfortunately when our lunch order arrived and I tasted the chicken only and was disgusted to find that my chicken tasted like fish!!! The ONLY reason for this could be that the same oil was used to fry their fish in for the fish and chips that was also on the menu. I noticed that many patrons had ordered this item. I asked the waiter to please take the plate back with my reason. When my fiancé was half way through his sandwich the chef (might have been head chef) approached me with a “hello my sweetie”. She then proceeded in explaining that there are anchovies in the wrap and that this could have explained the taste. I then confirmed that I tasted a piece of crumbed crispy chicken on its own. Then she said it could have been the Caesar dressing?! Again I told her I had no dressing on the piece of chicken nor did I taste it with anything else and that it must be the oil. She said she would check with her staff, but never came back to the table. Moral of the story? Please use separate oil to fry your chicken in as the fishy taste will not be camouflaged by Caesar dressing, anchovies or a beautiful setting …
