Winter specials at Catharina's

 

 

Ah here it comes, our lovely Cape Winter.

Rainy, misty and cold with some icy breezes in between to say the least. Brrr.

So what's better than to sit down in a cosy restaurant with some red wine twinkling in a bowl of a glass and some seriously super food.

We popped along to Catharina's to try out their Winter special and it warmed me all over.

The setting
Catharina's is a beautiful restaurant. Spacious and sweeping with high rustic ceilings and a feeling of classic luxury.

The food
Fine dining but not too fussy. The special is a set menu with no choices which could be really limiting if you don't feel like what they're suggesting. But that said, they were all the husband desired so he very happily went for it.

I deviated slightly and ordered off the a la carte. Good call, it was awesome.

Mouth-watering moments:
- The risotto starter was eye-popping  - what's better than a (really good) mushroom risotto in winter?
- Lamb shank to absolutely die for - we had a small fork fight.
- The Catharina's red blend we had with the meal - it was wonderful how well it went with almost all of the dishes. A really great all-rounder with a very happy-making nose.

Perfect for
Catharina's is a special occasion restaurant as the prices are at the top end. This special makes it a little more accessible to those who adore food and wine.
